Judgment System

In rhythm games, the "Judgment System" is the core mechanism for evaluating the accuracy of player actions relative to the rhythm and on-screen prompts.
It determines whether each Note's press or touch is accurate and provides corresponding feedback and scores.
This system is a key component of the charm of rhythm games, directly affecting the player's experience, score, and sense of achievement.
In Milthm, we have a unique judgment system.

This document aims to provide a professional and comprehensive analysis of the judgment system for players and fans of the rhythm game Milthm.

Core Judgment Mechanism

1. Note Types and Their Judgment Methods

Milthm includes various basic note types, each with specific interaction and judgment logic. The game mainly includes the following three types of notes:

ImageNameJudgment Method
DewDew NoteAccurately hit when the note overlaps with the judgment circle
DrizzleDrizzle NoteHold when the bottom of the note overlaps with the judgment circle and release when the Drizzle ends
RaindashRaindash Note"Catch" the note when it reaches the judgment circle

TIP

In Milthm, there are no so-called Hold notes. Please do not confuse Drizzle Notes with the Hold Notes in other games.

Unlike others, Drizzle Notes have a special mechanism called Water Reflection. The Water Reflection mechanism is mainly reflected in the following situations:

  1. When a Drizzle Note is hit, its judgment range expands from the previous range to the entire screen. At this time, moving your finger on the screen will not cause a Miss judgment.
  2. As long as there are Drizzle Notes overlapping with the judgment circle on the screen, you must keep at least one finger on the screen. The position of the finger is not required, as long as it is in a valid area of the screen (except in special cases, including but not limited to false Drizzle Notes used for performance purposes).
  3. When there are no Drizzle Notes overlapping with the judgment circle on the screen, you must lift all fingers off the screen. Continuing to hold will not result in any penalty, but it will be a meaningless action.

So, as long as there are Drizzle Notes in contact with the judgment area, there must be a finger on the screen.

I see, so there are no traditional Hold Notes in *Milthm*. Drizzle is just a prompt to remind you to keep at least one finger on the screen.

* See the Water Reflection section for details.

2. Judgment Levels and Terms

Milthm has four core judgment levels, ranked from highest to lowest:

  • Perfect: The most accurate hit.
  • Good: A hit with some deviation.
  • Bad: A hit with significant deviation, causing a combo break.
  • Miss: A miss or a hit outside the judgment window, also causing a combo break.

3. Judgment Range

The judgment range defines the valid time range for player actions relative to the accurate timing of the note, usually measured in milliseconds (ms). A narrower judgment window means higher judgment requirements.
